Throwback player of the day

Deron Cherry, Safety Kansas City Chiefs (#20). You probably don’t know because he was exiled in Kansas City (where he made one playoff appearance until the very end of his career), but Deron Cherry was one of the best defensive backs in the 1980’s. He made the Pro-bowl six straight years (was all-pro three times) and finished his career with 50 pickles. And that was after initially coming into Chiefs camp as a punter! He was one of the few players you could even mention in a conversation about the best safeties in the league when Ronnie Lott was sucking all the oxygen out of the room (and receiver’s lungs – ba dum dum tsh!) and my eyes deserves to be in Canton.
